Priming is the essential step that allows you to put your Berkey filters into service before their first use.

Black Berkey® and PF-2® filters contain air inside their micropores when they are new. Priming consists of expelling this air and completely saturating the filters with water, so that they can function correctly.

Without priming, water does not circulate normally and filtration cannot take place effectively.

In practice, priming therefore allows you to:
→ eliminate the air present in the filters
→ prepare the micropores for water absorption
→ ensure smooth and regular gravity filtration

Once primed, the filters can be installed in the system and used normally.
